MOCs and the Path to True Brick Frugality

Inspiration: The Sound of Building (Sound)

Need some background noise for your own MOC build session? Here is an audio clip to get the creative juices flowing.

Our Original Creations (MOCs)

This is where we put our money where our mouth is. Why buy an $800 set when you can buy the pieces on BrickLink for half the cost and build something completely unique? The beauty of LEGO is in the creative freedom. Below are three of our favorite custom builds (MOCs) with links to their respective tutorial videos on our YouTube channel.

The Battle of Hoth Diorama

Custom LEGO Battle of Hoth MOC with snow effects and Rebel speeders.
Fig. 5: Battle of Hoth MOC — a layered snow diorama capturing the chaos of battle.

This MOC was our first major attempt at a large-scale diorama, focusing on forced perspective and layering snow effects using various white and light gray plates. It captures a small skirmish between a Rebel speeder and a few Snowtroopers.

Tatooine Diorama

Custom LEGO Tatooine diorama with a market stall and moisture vaporator.
Fig. 6: Tatooine Diorama — Mos Eisley-inspired MOC featuring a Dewback and desert market.

Focusing on the classic desert aesthetics of Mos Eisley, this MOC features a dilapidated moisture vaporator, a market stall, and a custom built, brick-built Dewback. We used mostly tan and dark tan bricks to capture the sun-bleached look of the twin sun planet.

The Venator Crash Site on Dathomir

Custom LEGO Venator crash site MOC on a jungle planet.
Fig. 7: Venator Crash Site — combining wreckage, plant life, and weathering for cinematic detail.

This MOC is inspired by Clone Wars era battles, showing the wreckage of a massive Venator class Star Destroyer on a lush, overgrown planet. It required techniques for 'slicing' the starship and integrating plants and vines over the exposed Technic frame.
